JOIN US !
To remain creative and effective in preserving, educating about and advocating for our
incomparable historical record, we need your membership, your financial support, and
your voice. We are an all-volunteer organization and have no requirements for membership
beyond an interest in history and our heritage.
Here's what our membership has helped us do this past year:
- Sponsor an audio documentary and traveling exhibit on the Great Textbook War
(1974) which has been awarded broadcasting’s oldest & most prestigious prize, the
Peabody Award.
- Establish an Internet Web site www.KVHPS.org
- Bring public attention to the historic value of the 1946 Quarrier Diner and the nine
other historically valuable structures on our 2010 Threatened List.
- Place a commemorative marker at the site of the 1915 Charleston High School/
Thomas Jefferson Jr. High School building.
- Participate with the Preservation Alliance of WV in a successful Legislative Luncheon
promoting historical preservation.
- Participate in a professional assessment and the advancement of the preservation of the
1884 Whipple Bridge over the Elk River.
- Work on a full-color Historic Downtown Charleston tour guide; lead an Historic
Homes tour for FestivALL.
Here's what you get:
- A quarterly newsletter Up and Down the Valley and a Web site with current information on historical matters.
- Invitations to all Society functions.
- A voice in and influence on the activities the state’s largest non-genealogical historical
advocacy group.
